During our travels we've been fortunate to find many talented artists. Here are just a few of the artists featured in Beautiful Antiques & more:
Marc Sijan, a Wisconsin sculptor, has carefully studied and modeled the human form for more then twenty years. His work has won recognition throughout the country with a major commission at the Byer Museum in Chicago, sales to major collections and private collectors. Sijan's figures are incredibly lifelike, sensuous and graceful. We found the Victorian women particularly beautiful and carry a large selection of them.
Sijan’s method is exacting. He works from live models to produce a negative mold in plaster. Then, he sculpts the interior with special tools using a magnifying glass to assure accurate detail. To achieve the realism that he is known for, Sijan applies 25 coats of paint and adds varnish. During the final stages of work Sijan uses oil paint. He spends as long as six months reproducing this detail on one piece.
Studio artist Andrew Shea’s inspiration comes from geometric shapes and architectural structures. He began studying fine art and glass blowing over 30 years ago and lives in the Twin Cities. Andrew felt that perfume bottles were an underrated form of artistic expression and sought to design pieces that highlight the interplay of form, color, surface and depth. His exquisite perfume bottles can be showcased in any room of your home.
Paul Uhl is an exceptionally talented studio potter & sculptor from Texas whose mail interest is the vessel. Paul shows his work all over the country, he is represented by numerous galleries and has his work in many private collections. We offer Paul’s distinctive teapots in three sizes; each one is unique.
Connie Kuhn began collecting unique vintage buttons over twenty-five years ago. On a trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico she saw an unusual necklace in a gallery. Made of wire, ribbons and old buttons Connie was inspired. As a painter and artist Connie envisioned the necklaces in a different way and arriving home she began creating. Her necklaces are made with interesting materials like vintage silk ties for the backing, her collection of buttons and fabulous beads. The necklaces are labor intensive, each one taking almost two weeks to complete.
Connie winters in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with her family and spends summers at her home in Lake Ada, Minnesota. Our collection of necklaces varies, as no two are alike, please call to confirm availability of a necklace. Shop Connie Kuhn
